Cogolin itself is a “year round” village with shops, bars, restaurants and a twice weekly market. It is the centre of the French pipe making industry with several workshops in the town and is also renowned for its carpet weaving.
The largest major town to Cogolin is St Tropez (10 Km) and is a must for a visit with its chic shops, yachts, markets and quayside artists.
The property is close to many beautiful beaches but the nearest beach is at Marines de Cogolin (7 Km) an ideal spot for small children. Cogolin is also the perfect base from which to explore the picturesque country side, unspoilt villages and spectacular coast.
Local activities are almost too numerous to mention, including mountain biking, golf (2 sets available), horse riding, wind surfing, cycling (2 bikes available), swimming, sailing and tennis.
Whilst the south of France is a great place to be during the summer months it also has a lot to offer out of season.
The village of Bormes les Mimosas, described by some as one of the prettiest villages in the area, has a spectacular display of mimosas during February and nearby Fort Bregancon is the summer residence of the presidents of France.
In April the annual spring music festival (Printemps Musical) is held in St Tropez. This is a wonderful 2 day celebration of classical music held outside (when possible!).
In early May the Harley Davidson Owners Group (HOG) hold an annual event at Port Grimaud. This 4 day festival, which attracts several thousand Harley owners and enthusiasts, will be held 10 – 13 May in 2012.
The Voiles de St Tropez, held late September/early October, was formerly a traditional sailing competition but has now moved upmarket and boasts a classic yacht race and modern regatta. It marks the final stage of the European Prada Challenge for classic yachts. Many of the vessels can be viewed in St Tropez harbour along with their crews lounging in the seafront bars!
Anytime of the year in this region is a good time for visiting the local chateaux and vineyards for wine tastings and possibly purchasing. Some require appointments but many are happy for you to call in at any time.
Walking is also a very popular activity out of season and the Chemin des Dounaiers (the Customs Officers Road) follows sections of the coast for 187km from St Cyr to St Raphael. In the St Tropez area the Sentier du Littoral follows the coast and offers truly spectacular views.
Finally for the bargain hunters towards the end of October there is a 4 day shopping event when practically all the shops (including the designers) reduce much of their stock by up to 50% before the end of season. An event definitely not to be missed!
